About Me

I’m Nancy, an integrative therapist and founder of Juniper Counselling and The Shadow Work Studio, based in Buxton, Derbyshire.

My work has always been centred around people — understanding their experiences, listening without judgement, and creating a space where they can feel genuinely seen and supported.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent years working in care, where I naturally found myself drawn to sitting alongside people through difficult moments. My own experiences also shaped the way I see therapy. When I was looking for support myself, I often struggled to find therapists who felt approachable, human and easy to connect with. Too often, therapy felt distant or clinical.

I wanted to create something different.

A space where you don't feel like a problem to be fixed or a case to be solved, but a person with a story worth listening to.

That is at the heart of both Therapy with Nance and The Shadow Work Studio.

Juniper Counselling

Through Juniper Counselling, I offer integrative counselling for adults and young people aged 16 and over, both in person and online.

My approach is person-centred and trauma-informed, meaning there is no expectation that you arrive with everything figured out — or even knowing exactly what you need.

You don't have to find the right words. You don't have to know where to begin. We can start wherever you are.

I believe you already hold many of the answers to what you're carrying. My role isn't to tell you what to do or hand you a list of strategies, but to sit with you, listen properly and help you make sense of things in your own time.

I have particular experience supporting people through:

  • Bereavement and grief, including life-limiting illness

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Intimate partner violence and coercive control

  • Life transitions and identity

  • Self-harm and suicidal thoughts

  • Workplace stress and burnout

The Shadow Work Studio

The Shadow Work Studio grew from the same belief that support doesn't always have to look one particular way.

Alongside traditional talking therapy, I offer a range of holistic and therapeutic experiences designed to support the whole person — mind, body and experience.

The Shadow Work Studio is a space to slow down, reconnect with yourself and explore some of the things that sit beneath the surface, without pressure to explain everything or have all the right words.

Through practices such as sound therapy, facial massage, mindful and energy-based sessions, the studio offers another way to feel supported — particularly for those who may not connect with traditional talking therapy alone.

Juniper Counselling and The Shadow Work Studio are two sides of the same approach: creating a calm, compassionate space where you can feel supported, understood and able to explore what you need, in a way that feels right for you.

My training & qualifications

I hold an MSc in Counselling from the University of Salford and am a Registered Member of the BACP, working in accordance with their Ethical Framework.

My practice is grounded in person-centred therapy, alongside training in trauma-informed practice, CBT-informed approaches and supporting survivors of intimate partner violence.

Whether you come to me for counselling through Therapy with Nance or explore the more holistic side of my work through The Shadow Work Studio, the intention remains the same:

to meet you where you are, without judgement, and create space for the inner work that matters to you.
